![]() Today I am working with my favorite of all the decks I own. My Blue Bird Lenormand cards .My last deck was so worn and during several sad drunken reads some cards got misplaced and I was unable to use them. I received a new deck today. Lenormand cards are quite different then normal tarot. This is the oldest form of card reading based off the suits of playing cards. Mary-Ann Adelaide Lenormand was born in 1772 France. She was sent to a school run by nuns and her gift of prophecy was evident at the age of 7. The Benedictine nuns of course punished her by starving her and giving her just bread and water as they thought it would counter her sorceress abilities. By the age of 18 she had established herself as a fortune teller. She opened a salon/bookstore and her fame continued to grow. She predicted the violent death of King Louis XVI. She even attempted to save Mary Antoinette from the guillotine. She would go on to predict many more things such as Napoleon divorcing his wife Josephine. Mlle. Lenormand died at age 72 from complications from a surgery resulting in gangrene. Today I did a general reading for the world and what came up seemed to fit. I drew The Birds aka the 12 of diamonds, The Mountain aka 21 of clovers, and The Garden aka the 20 of spades. The birds mean chatter, talk, gossip. The mountain means obstacle, blocks, difficulties. The Garden means the public, nature, gatherings. So this reading is very fitting for what is going on in the world because everyone is talking about when Covid19 will stop getting in the way of public gatherings. From this particular draw it does look like there will be more obstacles and delays before the public is back to normal. The timing of the mountain card is long. One of the things I love about Lenormand is that they tell a story and each card even has a little poem to explain the card. Here is the poem from the birds card, Birds bring a message full of cheer. If this card falls distant, all is not clear. Whatever the outcome, remain without fear. Woes will be brief when the birds disappear.
